Welcome

Welcome to my site, a resource site that exists to provide disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ with biblical and theological resources at all levels, from devotional to scholarly--but mostly at a practical level that is helpful to disciples. My desire is to provide all my writings and teachings free of charge for believers seeking to understand God's word and ways better. I pray that your walk with the Lord Jesus Christ will be enriched by this site, and I sincerely hope you will engage with me in the regular broadcasts and forums. Read more »

About

Who is Kevin?

Nobody important. Just a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ whom God has called to study, obey, and teach the glorious riches of his word (Ezra 7:10). At age 16 Jesus Christ apprehended my life, and filled me with a consuming desire to know his Word. This led to a lengthy season of studying theology, culminating in the completion of my doctorate at the University of Stellenbosch when I was 25. After that, I served as a pastor in Port Elizabeth for four years, and I have been the Academic Dean at the South African Theological Seminary since 2004.

Kevin is a lover of God, a servant of Jesus Christ, a student of scripture, a husband to Lyndi, and a father to Joshua. My prayer is that God be glorified, Christ be known, scripture be believed in truth and obeyed in practice, and the gospel be served through this site.

What are Kevin’s views?

Essentially, I am a passionate evangelical with a high view of scripture. I was born again into a Pentecostal church, and did all my formative theological studies (BA and MA) through an Assemblies of God institution. However, with the passing of time I became increasingly frustrated with the excesses and abuses that permeate so much of the Pentecostal-Charismatic movement. I continue to fellowship in conservatively Charismatic churches, though I no longer hold classic Pentecostal views. I will let you figure out from the content of the site where I stand on other theological debates. Suffice it to say for now that I subscribe wholeheartedly to the five classical points of Reformed belief, even though I do not consider myself a Calvinist:

  1. Sola Scriptura: the Bible alone and the Bible in its entirety is God’s inspired and inerrant revelation to humankind.
  2. Sola Christi: salvation for sinful human beings can be found in the Lord Jesus Christ alone.
  3. Sola Gratia: salvation is provided by God’s grace alone apart from any human merit.
  4. Sola Fidei: salvation is received by faith alone–trust in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
  5. Sola Deo Gloria: the glory of God is the ultimate end of all creation and the immediate purpose of all we do in this life.
